Inside the KATYUSHA Factory: From Barstock to Reel

Inside the KATYUSHA Factory: From Barstock to Reel

Every KATYUSHA reel starts as a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminium and a drawing. Nothing is cast, nothing is bought in and re-badged. That decision costs machining time and it is the reason the frame takes a knock without going out of true.

CNC first

Body, spool and drag housing are machined on 5-axis cells. Tolerances are held tight enough that parts from the same batch interchange without hand-fitting, which is what makes a spare spool a spare spool rather than a project.

Anodizing and finishing

Colour is anodized into the aluminium, not painted onto it, so the finish does not chip off at the line guard. After anodizing, each frame is hand-polished and inspected under raking light — the angle that shows every ripple a machine leaves behind.

Drag assembly and test

Sealed drag stacks are assembled and then measured, not judged by feel. Every reel is spun up and its start-up and maximum drag recorded before it is boxed. Twenty-one checkpoints sit between the billet and the carton; any reel that fails one goes back a step, not out the door.

Why it matters to you

Because the people who machine the reel are the people who answer your email. There is no trading layer between the factory floor and the warranty desk — and that is the whole point of buying direct.
